Wild Flower Pool bag and swimsuit

so it is the fourth day of sewing for me for Kids Clothes week and I am getting my blogpost up later and later 🙂 I am also cutting it very close to the Project Run and Play sewalong for April so I finished up my bag for Project Run and play as well as sew 2 swimsuits for Bella.

This month is Mandy from Sugar Bee Crafts with her FREE Reversible Sling bag pattern . I have been following Mandy for the past few months on Instagram while they are building their Dream house and it is just amazing to see how things are getting done and all the progress. She has a wonderful style! So moving on to the challenge – I was not sure if I was going to sew along this month for many reasons but ended up going for it which I am glad I did. We are planning a Beach trip in May to Florida and Bella needs her own bag for her towel, dry clothes and pool toys which this bag has more than enough space for. I made it and interchangeable bag with flowers and bows which can be attached with Kam snaps.PicMonkey CollageThe Process…..

She loves snapping them on and off and keep all the flowers and the bow in one of the pockets on the inside. The zipper on top keeps everything in place. I used a Robert Kaufman Essex linen for the bag and added coral piping all around. The inside contrast fabric is the Wanderer Art Gallery premium cotton.

After finishing up the bag I thought I might as well do her swimsuit. I bought Liberty of London swimwear fabric at fabric.com about a month ago after seeing a simple leotard style swimsuit on instagram. Even though it is expensive it is so worth its price. I bought half a yard and only used half of that so I can easily make another swimsuit for Bella next year with it when she outgrows it. For the swimsuit I just used a basic leotard pattern and shortened the sleeves and added a circle frill with a rolled hem around the neck. I tried it out first with a green gingham swimwear fabric and the fit is really great – now she already has two swimsuits for the season. I love the sleeve because it helps preventing a rash from the life jacket or the wings. The fabric also goes perfect with the WILD theme of Kids Clothes week.

  1. You are always so creative. I like the idea of one bag 7 different ways. It’s been a long time since I’ve heard of anyone finishing seams with a Hong Kong Finish. I did that to an unlined jacket that I made once and I liked the finished product but it was very time consuming. Great job.

  2. That swimsuit is gorgeous – I am so jealous of that fabric – it seems impossible to find nice swimwear fabric here – even in the home of liberty! I do have a shirt made with that print though. Lovely job!

  3. Hi, did you make up this patten or follow one? I love how gorgeous the swimsuit is, yet it’s still so modest – there’s not enough of that these days! It’s just what I’m looking for for my daughter. Of course, I’ve never sewn with swimsuit fabric before… Scary!

  4. I finally found you. I do remember seeing this last year. I need to know how much did you purchase the liberty fabric per yard or 1/2 yard??
